Before and after photos. Before I had 6, six volt deep cycle flooded lead acid batteries wired in series for 36 volts. Which on occasion would slosh some acid onto my cart frame and cause it to rust. After I have one nice LIFePO4 non leaky battery 48 volts. I love having almost 300 pounds of weight removed from my golf cart! Plus the extra voltage is nice for increased speed and Torque. I did have to move some things around in the battery compartment. I bolted a piece of aluminum diamond plate down then put a piece of horse stall mat on top to help reduce vibration then strapped the battery on top of that. I would highly recommend this battery!! On a side note I also had a new motor installed recently that was rated for 36 and 48 volts. I would make sure your components are rated for 48 volts if upgrading. I had to change out my bleed off solenoid resister. To a larger size. Fortunately when I bought the solenoid it came with both resistors.
At this point, the battery seems very solid and has great incorporated BMS capability. The battery seems well constructed, took the initial charge from my LiFePO4 charger. I was able to monitor the initial charging from ~50% to 100% via the provided Bluetooth monitoring capabilities (very cool capability).
I will return with more information here after I get some time to hook this to a 3000W inverter to put some load on it with my power monitor to check how it performs with a load. I will also then connect it to my MPPT charge controller to watch it charge from an 800W solar panel.
At this point, happy with the battery. The load tests will be the next evaluation and probably the more important.
I ordered the 48 volt 100 amp hour battery for my DIY solar generator. It came fairly quickly. I hooked it up to hybrid inverter and charge controller. I latter learned that the hybrid unit was set to Gel batteries which caused the batteries BMS to kick in to protect the battery. When my hybrid unit didn't turn on I assumed the BMS had kicked in for some reason. I immediately contacted Chins and they were offering for me to send the battery back so they could check it out. I said I would like to see if we could try to fix the issue through e-mail communication first. They asked for a screen shot of my phone app so they could see what the battery was doing. It took a couple of attempts at solving the issue but we did get the issue solved. It was exactly as I thought. The BMS kicked in. I had to hook up my panels to my hybrid unit in order to set the parameters and that is when I discovered the unit was set for Gel batteries. I now have the battery installed in my DIY solar generator. It's a 5000 watt generator and now I have 5000 watt hours of storage. The battery is working perfectly and I will probably be ordering another one so i will have 10,000 watt hours of storage.
This battery replaced my lead acid batteries in my EZGO cart. I was getting to the point of charging my 3 year old batteries nearly every time I used the cart. I put this battery in about 4 weeks ago and have only charged it twice once it dropped to about 60% or so. My cycle count is still at 2. Amazing for the $$
I had a friend recently convert his golf cart to one lithium battery. When my lead acid batteries finally started showing their age I bought this battery to put in my 48V Yamaha Golf Cart. A few things to note:
First, this single battery is much larger than a single lead acid battery. It will not drop in and fit perfectly to the space where your old batteries were. You will need to make a special mount for it. For me, I put put a couple of blocks of wood together to make a level surface then used some ratchet straps to hold it in place. It weighs around 70 lbs, but since this replaced four lead acid batteries the each weighed about 70 lbs (probably 250 lbs ), this is much lighter!
Second, this battery is essentially plug and play. It's nice not having to run a circuit of interconnected batteries like with the lead acid. Just put the correct wires on the correct terminals and you'll be in business.
Third, you will need to get a new charger for this battery. The OEM charger and charging port will not work. I got the CHINS 48V lithium charger. It mounts to the terminals easily (these are the wires on top of the battery in the picture). It has a quick connector and charges extremely quickly (went from 50% out of the box to 100% in about 3 hours).
Fourth, this battery has an app that will let you know important information, like charge level, battery temperature, discharge levels, etc. It has been convenient so far and I have no complaints. It is Bluetooth, so you must be in close proximity to connect.
Last, while this battery didn't make my cart any faster (that's a motor thing), it did improve it's performance going up hills drastically. Before, my cart could only crawl up steep hills. Now it has nearly the same speed on the hills as it does on flat ground! I would chalk this up to not only being better performance from the battery, but also weight saving from losing the old heavy batteries. Also, after playing 18 holes on a course that is anything but flat (very hilly course in East Texas) this battery used 14% of it's capacity. That is with two guys on the cart, our clubs, and a big ice chest. So theoretically we could play 6 rounds of golf before recharging. I could barely get two rounds in with the other.
Needless to say, I am very impressed so far with this battery. It has greatly improved the performance of my golf cart, it was very easy to install, and I have no regrets. Yes it was a pricey investment, but well worth it. This will last longer and in the end save me more money over time. Hope you find this review helpful!
